OUR NEW WEBSITE

As you have no doubt noticed, our website has had a face lift!  We hope you like it and find it user friendly.  We would welcome your comments and suggestions.

The Trustees are grateful to Keith Hartley for the work he put in as Webmaster on our first website, without which we could not have done so much in so short a time.

Morag, Fran and Barbara are also grateful to Barry for all the hard work he has put in to produce our new website.  It has been quite a learning curve for him and he has accepted the challenge magnificently.  Keith will still be with us as web design consultant.

The Trustees would also like to express their thanks for the continued support of the Luxor4u forums  and its members.  We are grateful that as well as our own website we can reach a large number of people with urgent messages, updates or general information through that forum.

Please note: our email addresses have changed slightly.  They now have .uk after them.

FUNDRAISING

We have recently had a generous cheque sent us by some of our friends in the Coventry area of the UK.  The main part of the donation was raised by a car boot sale one Saturday in August.  This not only raised much needed funds but also awareness and many people asked about the work of Luxor4care.

The donation was enhanced because a 12 year old boy sold his ice hockey skates and donated the proceeds to us and a pensioner who had been saving her pennies in a jar found that she had collected £6 and also donated it to Luxor4care.

The money raised from these combined donations will be able to buy a much needed piece of domestic equipment for the use of the Good Samaritan Children’s Home.

We have also heard of a lady who is knitting children’s jumpers either for sale or to be taken over and given to a children’s home.

It just goes to show, you are never too young or too old to raise funds or donate your talents.  A big ‘THANK YOU’ to these and all our fund raisers.

We are in the process of sending out a leaflet of Fundraising Suggestions to all our members.  If you are not on our members list and would like to receive a copy please contact Barbara Harrison at secretary@luxor4care.org.uk

 RESP0NSE TO AN EMERGENCY

During the summer we received an urgent request to help a family in Luxor.  Their home had been destroyed by fire and they had lost everything.  They had been given shelter in the form of one room in another family’s house, but desperately needed bedding, clothing and school items for the children.

We were able to put an urgent message on the Luxor4u forum and it was taken up by a number of members of that forum and members of Luxor4care.  The family are extremely grateful for the help they were given.

GIFTS TO THE THERAPY CENTRE IN SEUL

In our last newsletter it was reported that some physiotherapy equipment had arrived in Egypt to be donated to the Children’s Therapy Clinic in Seul.  Those gifts are now in regular use at the clinic and the manager and Doctor’s are extremely grateful.

They still have many needs, not least for a heat muscle stimulator such as the one shown above.

This centre welcomes visitors.  If you would like to visit please contact Barbara Harrison who can put you in contact with the manager.

A BLENDER FOR THE GOOD SAMARITAN HOME

Many of us take our kitchen equipment for granted, desiring the latest gadget to come onto the market and then, after relatively few uses, that much desired object is hidden away in the back of a cupboard.  For others something as simple as blender can mean the world of difference between being able to eat a nourishing meal or not.  We are happy to say that we have been able to supply a blender to the Good Samaritan home so that they can enable the more disabled children and the elderly in their care to be able to eat the meals that have been prepared.
